Apply for Committee

Joining the Colleges Against Cancer Committee is a challenging but extremely rewarding task. If you are considering becoming a leader of our campus organization, please read the following information about what being on Committee requires!

To apply for committee, a member does not have to be active, but preference will be given to active members. Review the criteria for active membership here.

Committee members must be able to commit to the following responsibilities:
  • Attend every Bi-Weekly Meeting, as well as a Committee Meeting afterwards (2 excused absences)
  • Maintain active membership
  • Attend the Main Events of the semester
  • Carry out the responsibilities of the Committee position they hold 
  • Fundraise $1000 throughout the span of the year

Positions:

President (previously Executive Director)
In order to apply for President, you must have been on Committee for at least one full year.
The role of the President is to oversee the Committee Chairs and Members and to work with the Vice President and the ACS Advisor to organize and plan a successful fundraising event.

Vice President
The role of the Vice President is to perform the duties of the President in his or her absence and to assist the President and the ACS Advisor in organizing and planning a successful fundraising event.

Secretary
The role of the secretary is to record meeting minutes, keep track of member attendance and points, and to help the President and Vice President keep the website and Tigerlink page updated. The Secretary will also assist in sending out email updates and creating the meeting presentation.

Treasurer (previously Accounting Chair)
The role of the Treasurer is to keep detailed records of club income and calculate the money raised at the end of the year for the American Cancer Society.

Recruitment Chair
The role of the recruitment chair is to recruit teams, participants, and members and to schedule regular Free Speech Alley table sits, as well as work other recruitment events like the Student Organization Fair.

Mission Chair
The role of the Mission Chair is to promote the mission of the organization and oversee sales of Luminaria and organization of the Luminaria Ceremonies. It is important that the Chair keeps a detailed record of Luminaria sales.

Marketing Chair
The job of the Marketing Chair is to promote the mission and events through social media, monthly newsletters, and other campus media. The Marketing Chair is also responsible for creating flyers and other graphics needed and taking photos at the event.

Fundraising Chair
The role of the Fundraising Chair is to oversee fundraising efforts throughout the semester. The Fundraising Chair will coordinate the events during Beat Bama week in the fall semester and should schedule and plan frequent giveback nights and other fundraising events.

Sponsorship Chair
The role of the Sponsorship Chair is to obtain sponsors for the events and to ensure that promises made to sponsors are upheld. The Sponsorship Chair will also be responsible for collecting and keeping track of raffle items and other donations for the event.

Upcoming Events

Here are the events that we're working on this year and a little bit about them! Luminaria Ceremony October 14 (tentative) The Luminaria Ceremony is a ceremony of remembrance and hope. It is a way to honor survivors and those who have lost the battle to cancer. It is a time to grieve for those we have lost, to reflect on our own or loved ones cancer experience, and to find hope that tomorrow holds the promise of a cancer-free world. This year, we hope to light up sorority row with Luminaria bags in honor of the cancer survivors in our community. Luminaria bags are $10 each and go towards cancer research. Sponsorships for this event are available for the bags ( $1,000) and yard signs ($100). Bark For Life October 27 Bark For Life is a fundraising event honoring the life-long contributions of our canine caregivers. These dogs demonstrate unconditional love, joy, compassion, and no judgments of cancer survivors' abilities or appearances. The American Cancer
